International business and trade cases, including establishment of corporations in Korea, license and distribution agreements, dumping and countervailing duty actions, unfair competition, franchising, energy explorations and maritime disputes are major areas of the Firm's concern. The Firm has been involved in recent cases such as those concerning technology transfer, oil and gas explorations, and subsidiary/joint venture company formation or operations and disputes in various service on manufacturing industries between United States or EU countries and Korea, and is active in the Korea Energy Law Institute and other Korean and international legal and business associations.

 

Kim & Kim is active in international financial matters, including investment-finance and venture-capital contracts and transactions. It provides legal services, including for example the negotiation of loan agreements, relating the domestic bank and conventional international financing, and comprehensive legal planning both for foreign direct and portfolio investment in Korea and for Korean investment aboard, including international real estate investments. It has also been involved in the settlement of investment disputes between foreign investors and related host governments or other Korean parties, through the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and the Korean courts.

 

The Firm represents individuals and corporations before the Office of National Tax Administration and the courts in connection with administrative rulings and other disputes, and before the executive or legislative proposals concerning international or other tax issues.

 

Specialized expertise has developed in competent-authority and other issues of importance to foreign corporation and individual investors in Korea. Industrial property and copyright law, as well as computer, multimedia, telecommunications and other fields of high-technology law and entertainment law, are among many types of matters within the scope of the Firm's international practice expertise.

 

Kim & Kim was involved in the establishment of the Korea Energy Law Institute in Seoul Korea. The Institute is involved in legal research and developments of Korea Energy Law. Mr. Soung Soo Kim is also on the chair of the LawAsia Energy Section.

Kim & Kim also represents alien individuals or company employees before the criminal investigation authorities including the police criminal bureau, the Prosecutor¡¯s office and the Criminal courts of Korea in terms of their fundamental rights infringed during the course of business, but given by the Korean Constitutional Law and Criminal Laws.
